Add Item To Your Planner SierraVista History Walk - Santa Cruz de Terrenate

Join the Friends of the San Pedro River for an interpretive walk at the Spanish Presidio Santa Cruz de Terrenate, an important historic site within the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area.  As the Spanish extended their empire out of Mexico, they established a Presidio (fortress) along the San Pedro River.  Construction began in 1776.  Learn about the Presidio and what happened there to make the Spanish abandon the fort in 1780.  A trained docent will lead the walk and provide information on this historic site.  The walk is about three miles round trip and will take about three hours.  Be prepared for the weather with good shoes, hat, and water.  9:00 a.m.  Meet at Presidio parking lot, off Hwy 82, west of the San Pedro River, one mile north on In Balance Ranch Road.  For more information call 520-508-4445 or visit www.sanpedroriver.org.
